i fiddled with it for a few hours. figured out some of the logic but still had no idea about how to go about the solution. eventually i ended up using 3d modelling software to create a map of the 3d state space. it is incredibly complex and i had to view it as multiple 2d images as the full thing was impossible to understand. you could view it as a 3d maze, except that you have 8 directions of movement instead of 6, and there are *no* dead ends. only loops leading back to themselves, making it even more difficult.

Level Ten is correct. There are so many dead ends possible that the correct solution is just one of many configurations that seem to be correct, but lead to difficulty. Even if you cheat and try the manufacturer's printed solution, it does not cover the almost unlimited dead ends one might find oneself in. (At Harvard, we do not end sentences in prepositions. But we're not at Harvard, are we?) This is one puzzle where simply fidgeting may lead to some success, but ultimately several key (no pun intended, it just happened) relationships (juxtapositions) must be obtained for final success. This one puzzle will help kill an entire multi-hour flight on an airline,(better than Dramamine). This puzzle is on par with Hourglass as far as complexity and multiple dead ends, but is deceptively simple looking. Getting one piece almost out while the others remain near the starting position is a wonderful way to make the solver think that he or she is smarter than the puzzle, but that hope is quickly dashed. Having played with this puzzle extensively over the past year, I can solve it but always with difficulty. Don't think it will ever be easy. This is definitely one of my all-time favorites, along with Hourglass, Equa, Vortex, Quartet, Enigma, and others. Highly recommended, all of the features that give puzzlers the maximum bang for their puzzling dollars. Thousands of years from now, researchers will find our carbon dust surrounded by apparently useless devices that have remained intact, starting a new generation of enthusiastic puzzlers.

10 is the absolute correct difficulty on this one. I have a love hate relationship with this puzzle. There are so many possible positions and near solutions to this puzzle. This one took me a really long time, because I would get frustrated and move on to something else, and come back to it another day. It is really satisfying when you finally get it though! Great challenge.
